The term is used in jargon to indicate any circumstance where large amounts of unedited data are deposited for further examination.

Core Dump is a web comic made by Computer Science major graduate
Matthew Fendt where he can "dump" his ideas about the absurdities of
computer science and life in general. It updates around noon on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays.
